There is no area more perfect for your destination Hawaii wedding than Oahu. Known as the “The Gathering Place” and considered the true heart of the state, Oahu offers an abundance of nightclubs, restaurants, and such cultural attractions as theater and ballet.

Oahu also has several beautiful resorts that are perfect for weddings and classic Hawaii wedding honeymoons. We’ve done some research of Oahu and found three exquisite resorts which are perfect for a luxurious Hawaii wedding and honeymoon.

Select Oahu Resorts For A Hawaii Wedding And Honeymoon

Imagine celebrating your wedded bliss at the famous Turtle Bay Resort. You could marry at the Wedding Pavilion, a glass-walled sanctuary located on the tip of scenic Kuilima Point. Just a bouquet toss away from the ocean, you, your partner, and wedding guests would enjoy stunning views. An evening wedding would enable you to view some of the world’s most stunning sunsets.

The catering staff would create the wedding reception of your dreams, which would set the stage for a romantic honeymoon. Packages for newlyweds include massages for couples, picnic baskets, strawberries and champagne in your guestroom, private butler service, and oversized soaking tubs in the Beach Cottages.

The Resort of Halekulani provides the ideal setting for a romantic Oahu wedding. Couples wed either in the private and lush garden courtyard or on the Hau Terrace lanai overlooking Diamond Head and the Pacific.

Halekulani does not offer pre-set wedding packages; they prefer you hand pick the exact services you desire to make your ceremony, wedding reception and honeymoon perfect. Some of the exceptional services they offer include an in-house florist, a print shop, and a staff experienced in creating imaginative and exquisite special events.

Staff at the Hawaii Prince Hotel are experts in creating custom storybook weddings. This resort offers ideal settings for wedding ceremonies. You may choose their elegant Wedding Gazebo, overlooking the yacht harbor, and the Tower Garden, or you may opt for the Promenade Terrace with ocean views that are perfect for sunset and mid-morning weddings.

Their romantic packages for honeymoons include such amenities as:
Chilled bottle of wine;
Chocolate truffles
Daily breakfast buffet for two
Dinner for two

You won’t have to lift a finger for your Oahu wedding at the Kahala Hotel & Resort. Their staff will tend to details like flower arrangements, entertainment, and even place cards while you and your wedding guests take advantage of Kahala’s award winning spa.

All you have to do is choose the setting for the wedding service; Kahala staff will help you find a top wedding photographer, florists, and person to officiate the ceremony. Kahala’s wedding receptions are awesome; they provide specialized menus, excellent wines, and magnificent wedding cakes.

And after the guests have left, you and your spouse can retire to your spacious suite. The next morning, you’ll enjoy your first breakfast as a married couple. Then you may go back to the award-winning spa for some extra pampering.

An archipelago of six large islands – Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Maui and “the Big Island” – this tropical paradise is the perfect spot for your Hawaii wedding package – ceremony, reception, and of course honeymoon. And even though there is nothing more exotic than a romantic Hawaii wedding, you’ll still be in the U.S., and won’t have to worry about passports and paperwork needed for nuptials made outside of the country.

Hawaii’s warm aloha (much more than a greeting, a way of life) guarantees that you’ll receive a friendly and helpful welcome from everyone, especially if you’re there to marry.

The Right Romantic Hawaii Wedding For You

When you marry in Hawaii, you can stay on to honeymoon there, and your wedding guests will witness the passionate occasion while enjoying a vacation of their own. But with more wedding agencies than ever offering Hawaiian wedding packages, choosing the right one can be overwhelming and quite stressful. You need to examine the details and carefully read the fine print before making your decision.

First and foremost, talk to the wedding planners about who will officiate over your wedding service. This can be a sticky topic, but one you ought to deal with before all others. You may even want to talk to your parents and prospective in-laws to either gain their input or forewarn them, especially if they plan to attend.

Most Hawaiian wedding packages include a photo package. Make sure that the photos include pictures of the ceremony and the reception. Also, ask whether the photographs will include candids as well as portraits. Also, if you want a video to capture this loving occasion, be sure to ask if they are included in the packages and at what cost.

The best Hawaii wedding packages will include flowers – enough at least for a lei exchange and for the bride’s bouquet. And nuptials will not be complete without a wedding cake and a toast. You can choose the color and flavor of the cake and even whether the glasses for the wedding toast will be engraved with your names and wedding date.

Music is a must for all romantic weddings, and ought to be included in your package.. You can choose the type of music and even the specific love songs that you want to be played during the ceremony. Other details you may negotiate are the bride’s in-room hair and make-up, four hours of limousine to and from the wedding site, and even a dinner by the beach.

Make sure you and your partner scrutinize these details before you pick the wedding package of your choice. After that, you can simply relax, and enjoy your special day.

It’s your dream come true, a Hawaii Beach Wedding. The event may include only the two of you and a minister or it may be an elaborate affair with family, friends, groomsmen, and bridesmaids. With a bit of research and strategic planning, you can find the perfect beach to hold your romantic Hawaii wedding. With so many beaches, it’s difficult to locate the best one for you. For that reason, we’ve listed a few to get you started.

First, remember that prohibitions against alcohol and loud music are strictly enforced on the many popular Hawaiian beaches. A low-keyed champagne toast and music are permitted, but you must hold your reception elsewhere.

Best Beaches for Your Romantic Hawaii Wedding

MAUI
South Maluaka is situated behind the Maui Prince Resort, and offers many stunning spots. The park has several other grass knolls that overlook the ocean, yet the sandy beach is also wonderful. This beach has public restrooms and ample parking.

The Makena Surf lies on a secluded stretch of sand unknown to even some Maui natives. The flower-laden walkway down to the beach is beautiful, and the beach has golden sand and with black lava outcroppings.

Wailea Elua is Maui’s most luxurious community has a beach access popular with scuba divers. This site has a black lava point and two sandy coves to each side. There is ample parking, and restrooms making this site an excellent spot to be married.

OAHU
Wai’ alae Beach Park has a wonderful sandy beach with some semi-private grassy areas for Hawaii beach wedding photographs. There is a green grassy area with a lot of palm trees that is close to the shoreline. Sunset is not directly in sight, but the beautiful-colored sky is visible.

Lanikai Beach has some of the best sunsets on Oahu. Though the shoreline has been voted as one of the top ten beaches in the world, it doesn’t see many tourists, making it one of the most romantic Hawaii wedding venues.

Kailua Beach lies in the town of Kailua, just about 35-45 minutes from Waikiki. The white sandy beach is perfect for a passionate Hawaii beach wedding. The shoreline is wide with some large green grassy fields for photography. The water is most often a beautiful light colored turquoise with gently rolling waves.

KAUAI
At Hanalei Bay, the long stretch of white sand leads into a scenic rocky point, and the shoreline is situated at the base of a sheer cliff. These and the turquoise ocean make a beautiful Hawaii beach wedding, especially at sunset.

Ke’e Beach is another spectacular seaside location. Situated at the base of the Na Pali Coast Trail, this exquisite shoreline has been the setting for both movies and television programs. The pristine water is crystal clear providing you with one of the most romantic Hawaii weddings ever.

A Hawaii Beach Wedding can be one of the most passionate ventures in your life, so be sure to make your loving dreams come true.

You’re thrilled that so many friends and family will attend your Hawaiian wedding. But, you may wonder how you can organize the last-minute details of your wedding and Hawaii-based activities for your guests.

Plus, you’ll need to find different activities for a variety of guests. Let’s face it; your 75-year old grandmother will opt out of snorkeling, and your 18-year old brother will not spend an afternoon visiting boutiques. To keep your sanity while you put the final touches on your Hawaii wedding, and to give your guests a wonderful Hawaiian experience, try steering them towards these destinations.

Guests Activities Before The Hawaii Wedding

OAHU
Pearl Harbor continues to fascinate visitors. Try to visit the USS Bowfin and the Mighty Mo – decommissioned and opened as a museum, the mammoth ship now offers a variety of guided tours and fascinating insights into the life of a sailor.

Oahu’s Bishop Museum, offers fascinating exhibits, special events and educational workshops. Its $17 million, 16,500-square-ft. Science Adventure Center is fascinating for those even mildly interested in oceanography, geology, and seismology.

MAUI
Maui provides the perfect mix of beautiful lush nature with urban chic. City lovers will want to check out some of Maui’s famous shops and spas.

Your energetic guests can trek up Haleakala (Hawaiian for “House of the Sun”); this volcano is the highest point on Maui, more than10,023 feet above sea level. On a clear day, you’ll enjoy some of the most spectacular views Maui has to offer.

Maui is also known for its water sports – scuba diving, kayaking, and parasailing.

KAUAI
Kauai’s rain forests, mountains, and long stretches of white sand make it a nature-lover’s utopia.

Garden lovers will adore Kauai’s Na Aina Kai Botanical Gardens. On its 21 acres of gardens you’ll see; an exotic fruit farm which grows such rarities as atemoya, rambutan, and lychee; and a plantation of hardwoods featuring teak, rosewood, mahogany.

Hikers will want to checkout Kokee State Park on Kauai’s west side. Nineteen hiking trails travel more than 34 miles over the park’s 4,345 acres.

If you marry between December and May, your guests will be able to see Humpback Whales off the Kauai coast. So encourage them to book a ride on any of Kauai’s boat or rafting tours to view these majestic creatures.

BIG ISLAND
Hilo – As the youngest of the Hawaiian Islands, the Big Island of Hawaii is an amazingly active place — literally. For truly stunning vistas, guests can rent a care and drive on Highway 11 to the undulating lava fields of the Ka’u Desert between Volcanoes National Park and the tiny southern town of Na’alehu.

Hilo’s Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is the perfect place to view rainforests along side of America’s most active volcano. The two volcanoes: Mauna Loa and Kilauea (the former tops off at 13,677 feet), the latter is the active one — having been erupting off and on since 1983.

Coffee lovers will think they’re in heaven when they visit hundreds of specialty coffee farms, several mills, and museums along 20 miles of scenic country roads. They can drink Kona coffee all day long.

Just about any Hawaiian wedding location is picture perfect. Yet to capture every beautiful molecule of your special day, you’ll need an excellent Hawaii wedding photographer.

From Kauai to Maui to the Big Island, each has its own character, and its own secret areas to hold fantastic Hawaii wedding services. Wedding coordinators will know of some great local photographers as well as their prices and availabilities. They can also forewarn you about any personality quirks a photographer may bring to the occasion, which I can say from personal experience, is crucial knowledge.

How Great Photographers Enhance Hawaii Wedding Services

If you decide to forego the coordinator and find a wedding photographer yourself, then prepare to ask them several key questions before accepting their photo package. First and foremost is how willing and able the photographer will be in sticking to the agreed-upon price. Make sure the photographer doesn’t sneak in added costs for such things as transportation and photo-touch-ups.

The best Hawaii wedding photographers will dedicate at least one session strictly to high- end portraits of the bride and groom and wedding party. This will be done either in a studio or area where they can manipulate the lighting. Such session, however, can be quite pricy so plan accordingly.

During the actual wedding service, your photographer should need no more than a 35 mm SLR camera; they’re perfect for the variations of light, shadows and other circumstances. Yet the photos can be no larger than 8” by 12”.

Digital photography has revolutionized the industry ways that are nothing short of amazing. And the technology will only get better, faster and less expensive within a few short years not to mention months. If you opt for digital wedding photos, make sure the photographer has used the new technology at other wedding events. Then compare the photographer’s digital photos with his or her film photos to discern any difference in quality or even quantity.

Other advantages of digital film are:

Digital does, though, offer several advantages to the photographers while working.

1) The ability to see the image immediately after it was taken. This way, the photographer can see if my lighting, expression, exposure, etc. are correct right away rather than wait to see the film back from the lab in a few days.

2) The ability to quickly change the film speed; this allows the photographer to quickly take photos in a variety of lighting situations.

3) Digital photographers can shoot an almost unlimited number of photos – memory cards are amazing that way.

4) When one shoots digitally, every photograph can become a black and white and/or sepia image. That way, you can automatically get different variations of the same photo.

Most important, before choosing a wedding photographer, ask yourself the following questions: Do you like the feel and the style of the images that the photographer shows? Do you LIKE the photographer? Do you trust him or her? Do they exude confidence about the work they do and the tools that they use? Do they have raving fans who will share testimonials with you? Remember, these are photos you will want to share with your children and grandchildren. Best of luck.

Your Hawaii wedding cake is the first food you’ll share as husband and wife. This is why choosing the right kind of cake for your ceremony is essential.

But before you begin calling bakeries, you’ll want to make several important decisions like: budget; wedding’s location; cake decorations and symbolisms; and cake size. A beautiful yet practical cake will complete your dream Hawaiian wedding.

Steps To Ordering Your Perfect Hawaiian Wedding Cake

First things first, you need to decide how much you’re willing to spend. If you’re like I was before my marriage and have no clue about the costs of wedding cakes, I would suggest you phone a few Hawaiian bakeries and ask for quotes.

If there is a wide price discrepancy among bakeries, don’t hesitate to ask them why. You may even find out what kind of ingredients they use to eliminate the low quality, fly-by-night shops. When you narrow down the list, ask each bakery for a list of past customers for references.

The item to consider is where you plan to hold your marriage ceremony or – if you decide to have one – your wedding reception. In other words, where you plan to cut and eat the cake. Cakes that will be exposed to the hut sun or a strong sea breeze must be constructed to overcome such environmental hurdles.

Most Hawaiian bakeries are familiar with these outdoor challenges to cakes and plan accordingly. They may even suggest using portable shoji screens that shield cakes from anything a breeze might carry like sand and leaves.

When you choose the cake’s flavor, remember that the filling often represents the glue that will forever secure your marriage. Cakes’ fillings can symbolize different qualities you want to seal the union. For example:

Strawberry stands for a dignified marriage
Raspberry signifies a thoughtful and giving union;
Cherry and orange represent a joyful partnership; and
Almond symbolizes self-control.

Cakes made for Hawaiian weddings ought to have more decorations than just the plastic bride and groom miniatures. Because the husband and I are avid rock climbers, ours had our figurines ascending the cake’s vertical “rock face.” With a tropical background, you may want to decorate your cakes with spectacular scenes from Oahu, Maui, Honolulu, or even the Big Island. Hawaii’s sky is the limit.

The size of your Hawaii wedding cake should factor in the number of guests and how much you’d like left over as wedding dessert for your first anniversary. Again, this is the time to be creative. Some Hawaiian weddings have cakes shaped as waves, beaches, and tropical Islands. But most of all, weddings cakes are not only delicious, but they’re fun. So have a blast and have the best Hawaiian wedding ever.

Ever since Elvis Presley sang the ‘The ‘Hawaiian Wedding Song’ in the movie Blue Hawaii, many couples have wanted traditional weddings in Hawaii. In the ancient Hawaiian language, the word for marriage is Ho’ao, and the earliest traditions of Hawaii wedding services are as diverse as pouring sand into a bowl and touching noses before the nuptial kiss

A Variety of Traditional Hawaii Wedding Services

We’ve done some research and listed some of the best Hawaii wedding traditions that are relatively easy and fun to include in your tropical nuptials.

The Hawaiian style sand ceremony represents the joining of the bride and groom. Usually performed on a Hawaii beach, the ritual requires two small vials of sand that symbolizes the bride and groom’s separate lives. The couple pours the vials into one small bowl to symbolize that they’re now becoming one. The combined sand makes a wonderful wedding keepsake for the couple.

At many Hawaiian weddings, flower garlands known as leis are placed around the necks of the bride and groom. Leis, which symbolize love and respect, are made from some of the island’s most beautiful flowers – each lei is made up of some 40 or 50 flowers, and tied with ribbon. These garlands symbolize Hawaiian culture and are an crucial part of every island celebration.

Hawaiians used the Pu or conch shell to announce a special event like a wedding. It makes a dramatic hollow sound that can be heard half way around the island; the resonance is especially fitting for Hawaii beach weddings. At the start of the ceremony the conch blower walks in front of the bride blowing the shell into four directions – north, south, east, and west in order to bring the new couple energy and love.

Whether the ceremony occurs on a Maui beach or by a Hawaii waterfall on Kauai, hula dancers are an essential part of every traditional Hawaiian wedding. Hawaiian Hula is an ancient and sacred form of movement that’s meant to connect the dancer with the divine. The Hula shows how ancient Hawaiians lived, and how they thought before missionaries arrived and tried to ban the dance. It is performed in traditional costumes like the green ti leaf skirt.

An ancient form of chanting is the way Hawaiians tell stories, and every ceremony begins with a welcoming chant the Oli Aloha. Sometimes the Hawaiian chanter will also walk the Bride down the aisle, chanting a story of love and devotion. He will also do a special lei chant while you are exchanging your Maui wedding leis.

Though Polynesian settlers of Oahu, Maui, Kauai or Honolulu never sang The Hawaiian Wedding Song, rock legend Elvis Presley did. And ever since, singers at Hawaii waterfall, beach, and chapel weddings have sung these lyrics:

This is the moment
Of sweet Aloha
I will love you longer than forever
Promise me that you will leave me never

If you’re a match made in heaven, then your nuptials must occur amid the tropical Eden of a Hawaii wedding. The Hawaiian Islands provide the most romantic and scenic surroundings available. Whether your ceremony takes place in an exotic garden, or on Maui’s renowned beaches, a destination Hawaii wedding is many couples dream come true.

Whether you prefer an elaborate cliffside ceremony, or a casual barefoot wedding on the beach, you’ll join the increasing number of couples who are traveling to this tropical paradise to exchange vows. And after wedding celebrations can range from a traditional reception to adventurous activities including horseback, snorkeling, or even sky diving.

Hawaii Wedding Destinations
Hawaii most aptly called “the paradise of the Pacific” is an archipelago of nineteen tropical islands filled with rich greenery, multi-colored flowers, long white and black sanded beaches, as well as cloud-covered volcanic peaks.

Couples generally choose to marry in one of four main islands: the Big Island, Maui, Oahu, or Kauai.

THE BIG ISLAND is obviously the largest, and yet the least populated. This location has it all: volcanoes, black-lava fields, snow-capped mountain peaks, alpine meadows, a glacial lake, waterfalls including Kapuna, Akaka Falls, and Rainbow Falls, rain forests, deserts, and golden, black and green beaches. Only on the Big Island, could you marry on a sailboat and hold your reception on a ski slope. If you love unusual weddings, and want a location with lots of adventure sports, then the Big Island is your best bet.

KAUAI, often referred to as the “Garden Isle” is the most tropical and probably the most romantic of all the Hawaiian Islands. In the Wailua State Park you will see the Wailua Falls and you can take a river cruise down the only navigable river in Hawaii, the Wailua River, to the Fern Grotto, another popular wedding destination. Covered with tropical ferns, the Fern Grotto is a natural amphitheatre with excellent acoustics if you plan on having music. Kauai is also home to the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific,” or the Waimea Canyon on the western end of the island. The canyon is 3,000 feet deep so it is easiest to see it and its many waterfalls is from a helicopter.

MAUI is a wonderful wedding destination particularly if you or your wedding guests love to play golf and tennis or if they enjoy such water sports as windsurfing. The island has two mountain regions with beautiful waterfalls and fields of sugar cane. Intrepid couples may opt trek (or perhaps drive) 10,000 feet to the top of the Haleakala mountains for a spectacular sunrise or sunset ceremony.

OAHU is where the action is. Historically it is where the Hawaiian monarchy was overthrown and where the USS Arizona was attacked at Pearl Harbor. Today tourists enjoy the many resorts, restaurants, and nightclubs of Waikiki Beach, surfers challenge themselves with the death defying 25 ft waves of the Banzai Pipeline and Sunset Beach, and plant lovers find the largest variety of tropical fauna and flowers. Oahu is also home to Diamond Head Crater where you can drive right inside, climb 760 feet up where you can exchange your vows overlooking spectacular views of Waikiki and the Pacific Ocean.

No matter which Hawaiian Island you choose you are sure to find some of the most romantic destination wedding options the world has to offer.
